Hydraulics are strong and usually quiet. Some of the drawbacks
are:
- When there is a failure with the system, it may be
very difficult to diagnose the exact location of the problem. Also, finding hydraulic components in a small town is shaky
at best.
- You must find a spot to mount the hydraulic reservoir
and pump. This is usually in one of the rear storage compartments of the coach, which reduces storage capacity.
- When removing the lift, the connections to the hydraulic
lines must be disconnected. This could lead to a hydraulic fluid leak.
- In time, most hydraulic lines develop a leak, usually at the connection. This causes
hydraulic fluid to cover whatever is in the path as shown in the above photo.
The use of a proven & reliable electric cable system elliminates the hydraulic
problems. The winches are readily available in case of a rare failure. If the system does not operate, diagnosis is quick
and easy.
